Pippa's Story

  •

"Pippa came into our lives on the June 2023 adoption trip. We applied to adopt her in May, in what proved to be a thorough process. There was a Pre-adoption Welcome Presentation with lots of information, advice, and a chance to ask questions. Pippa is our first rescue dog, and we were nervous. Even with all the information given, we still didn't really know how it was going to go, but we did feel confident that Street Hearts were going to be on hand for support if we needed it".

"We had read so many stories about rescue dogs (especially from abroad), so we were prepared for Pippa to be quiet those first few days, needing space, maybe hiding away for a while, but she took us by surprise! She was so good and seemed to settle straight in, including making over my garden!"

"As she grew in confidence, her personality started to come out (I'd say it took about six months). She really is such a character and makes us laugh every day with her antics. She's always up to something! She's also the most stubborn dog I've ever had, and she can throw the best tantrum if she doesn't get her own way!"

"It's not been a completely easy journey. We've had to work hard with Pippa to stop her pulling on the lead, and she's got a high prey drive, so walking her where there are squirrels / deer was a nightmare. However, we had a session with a good trainer and spent a couple of months doing basic lead work, which really paid off. The squirrel / deer issue is still a work in progress, but she has definitely improved!"

"Pippa has totally stolen our hearts and we can't imagine life without her now. To anyone unsure about getting a rescue dog from Street Hearts, I'd say go for it. We were unsure, too, but it's turned out to be the best decision we could have made. It's hard work but so rewarding when they finally come to you for that first cuddle or fall asleep with their head on your knee for the first time. That feeling is amazing. We feel so lucky to have Pippa". - Sam, Nick, and family from Wigan, UK.
