Holiday Hearts Boarding Kennels and Cattery

  •

If you've found your way to this page then you probably already know that Holiday Hearts Boarding Kennels and Cattery is a part of the registered charity StreetheartsBG. We started boarding dogs and cats privately at StreetheartsBG 2 years ago and this helps to fund our extensive dog neutering and re-homing programme which costs around 48,000 leva a year. So in boarding your dogs with us you are also helping to improve the lives of the street dogs of Bulgaria.

At StreetheartsBG we have now cared for around 800 over the past 3 years and it is our passion to give animals a healthy, safe and happy life. So when it comes to taking care of your family pet we work particularly hard to ensure that their needs are met. Our priority is to provide a safe, secure and happy home-away-from-home experience for them whilst they are with us.

Accommodation

At Holiday Hearts Kennels and Cattery your dog will live in a private boarding area. If you are boarding more than one dog and would like them to live as a family in the same kennel please let us know so we can provide the appropriate space to suit their needs.

Recreation

Here at Holiday Hearts Kennel and Cattery our priority is to have happy, healthy, relaxed dogs. To this end all of our StreetheartsBG rescue dogs are taken on a pack walk across the mountains here in Glushka twice a day. You can watch a video of a regular pack walk here:

When your dog comes to stay with us they are most welcome to join in this fun event if you confirm with us that they are socialised and happy around other dogs. If you choose for your dog to join the pack walk we will ask you to sign a 'walking agreement' to allow us to add your family pet to the pack walk. We can walk them either on or off lead depending on their recall.

Your dog can also be lead-walked separately twice daily for an additional cost. Please ask for details.

Whatever you decide, rest-assured that your pet will receive lots of human contact throughout the day. Also remember that, as pens are close together, each dog has visual social connection with other dogs.

Food

We request that you bring your dogs or cats own food so that it does not disturb their routine. Please let us know if your pet has any allergies or specific feeding needs.

Health care

If your dog or cat develops a health issue whilst with us we have excellent qualified experienced local vet on hand to take care of any medical needs. You can have total peace of mind that your family pet will receive the best possible care whilst they are living here with us at Holiday Hearts Boarding Kennels and cattery.

Emergency contact

In the unlikely event that we need to get in touch with you whilst you are away, we ask each pet owner to provide:

  1. an emergency contact for yourself
  2. a local emergency contact.

Cat care

Here at Hearts Boarding Kennels and Cattery we have a cosy indoor room that houses cats. As you know, a cats needs are very different from a dogs! We ensure that by providing a secure, warm and peaceful place your cat can enjoy the ultimate experience whilst you are away. Dan our resident cat lover will ensure that your cat gets plenty of cuddles and attention.

Common questions we are asked

What happens if my dog or cat doesn't settle into its temporary home? Here at Holiday Hearts Kennels and Cattery, and StreetheartsBG, we have taken care of hundreds of dogs and cats and are highly experienced in working with animals to help them feel at ease. However, it may be that for some unforeseen reason your pet just doesn't settle into his/her new home – despite our best efforts to help them. In the event of this happening – and if we are concerned for the welfare of your pet - we will get in touch with you (or your local emergency contact in the event we are unable to contact you.)

My dog is nervous and I'm worried about leaving them with you. What should I do?

It is always a good idea to give us as much information as possible about any special behaviours your dog might have so that we are able to give them the most appropriate care whilst they are with us. So if your dog is nervous, for instance, we can aim to have a suitable kennel ready and waiting for them in a quiet space to help them adjust to their new environment.

At StreetheartsBG we work with nervous street dogs on a regular basis and are highly experienced in taking care of nervous dogs. So, rest assured, if your dog has a tendency to be nervous we will use our extensive experience to help them to feel safe, relaxed and trusting in their temporary home.

If you have concerns for your dog prior to their stay with us you are welcome to bring them to visit so they can get familiar with the surroundings. You could even let them have a trial overnight stay. This way, they will get to know the smells, sights and sounds of their new temporary home before they stay for longer. Importantly an overnight stay will also teach your dog that when it is left, you will be back to take it home!

It will also be good for us to see how your pet adjusts so that we can give them the most appropriate kennel when they come for their longer stay.

After the trial overnight stay we will give you feedback on how your dog has coped with their experience, and we will also give our honest opinion as to whether we feel a kennel is a suitable choice for your pet as a homing option.

You may also want to give your dog a worn piece of clothing or a blanket from home to have in its kennel as a familiar home scent will help them to relax and reassure them in their new environment.

When dogs are nervous they usually look for a small space to lie down in – it helps them to feel more secure. If you feel that this would help your dog to feel secure we can place a crate in their kennel. Just let us know when you book with us.

If you know from experience that your dog has extreme nervousness or separation anxiety you might want to try giving them a natural remedy. Your local vet should be able to help you with this.

Does my dog need vaccinations?

Your dog must be injected against Rabies, Parvovirus, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza, Distemper and Hardpad disease. We also strongly recommend the kennel cough vaccine. Prior to boarding check that your dogs' vaccinations are up-to-date, and remember they cannot be boarded until 7-14 days post-vaccination (depending on the vaccination they receive). Please bring the vaccination card with your dog when you drop them off.

Will my dog be alone or with other dogs?

If you have more than one dog you can request for them to be kennelled together – otherwise dogs who are boarding privately with us have their own private space. However if you would like your dog to join the StreetheartsBG twice daily pack walks please discuss this with us. At Holiday Hearts Kennels and Cattery your dog will be surrounded by the smell and sight of other dogs – so it will never be totally alone and isolated and they will have regular human contact too!

For reliable, safe, and trust-worthy care for your pet please contact us for more information, or to book a place. We are open 356 days a year!
