Founders
In 2013, Emma and Anthony moved from Yorkshire, UK to Bulgaria in search of a better, calmer way of life. As lifelong animal lovers, they soon became shocked by the volume of street dogs in their local area and started a dog neutering programme, which is how Street Hearts BG began! Emma and Anthony manage the shelter with dedication and care, ensuring it runs like a well-oiled machine. Their commitment and hard work are the driving forces behind its success.
Kate
Patron
As well as giving Street Hearts BG its name, Kate fundraised for us by cycling from Bulgaria to London over six weeks, raising thousands of pounds in the process. Kate is an actress, adventurer, and animal lover who also happens to be a dog behaviourist! Kate leads our pre-adoption welcome presentation for new adopters and runs Street Hearts' exclusive online training classes, ensuring our adopters and their dogs are set up for success from the very start.
Teodora (Teddy)
Shelter Manager
With experience in management and veterinary care, Teddy brings a wealth of knowledge to our team. As well as helping to create awareness about our shelter and the importance of neutering, she assists with education days, admin, and keeping the shelter environment (and our dogs) in tiptop shape!
Laura
Social Media Manager and Adoptions Coordinator
Laura assists us from her home in Derbyshire, UK where she lives with her Street Heart, Lidi. Anything that can be done remotely - from social media to adoption interviews and grant writing - Laura does it for us, including dog fostering! She has been ‘animal mad’ since birth and has a master’s degree in animal behaviour.
Lauren
Dog Trainer
Lauren is our qualified dog trainer, working part-time with us from the UK. Lauren lived at our shelter for three years, gaining invaluable hands-on experience and a deep understanding of our dogs' needs and behaviours. With her extensive experience and natural talents, she provides tailored training and behavioural support to our adopters.
Pauline
Shelter Assistant
Pauline helps to keep our shelter clean and tidy whilst also being a fantastic fundraiser, foster carer, and puppy cuddler! She previously ran her own neutering charity in Turkey, mainly focusing on cats.
Tatiana
Shelter Assistant
Tatiana ensures that our shelter remains a clean and hygienic environment. She also assists with the day-to-day care of our dogs, too! Tatiana was born in Russia but now resides in Bulgaria along with her very own Street Hearts, Rye and Rex.
Lisa
Volunteer Adoptions Administrator and Dog Trainer
Lisa supports us from her home in Preston, UK, where she lives with her three dogs (two of whom are Street Hearts!) She conducts adoption interviews and shares her extensive knowledge of dog training and behaviour to guide adopters through life after adoption.
Sandra
Volunteer Administrator
Sandra previously lived in Bulgaria, where she worked for us as a Shelter Assistant. Now back in the UK, she supports us with all administration tasks related to volunteer applications, using her experience and insights of shelter life to ensure we have the best volunteers to support our organisation.
Ophelia
Volunteer Shelter Assistant
From London to Bulgaria, Ophelia moved with her husband and is now raising two little animal enthusiasts. She helps with a variety of tasks at the shelter, from cleaning and walking to socialising our Street Hearts. A lifelong animal lover, Ophelia is passionate about helping rescue dogs and making a difference
Lesley
Volunteer Administrator
Lesley, a proud Street Hearts BG adopter, supports us from her home in Suffolk, UK, where she lives with her three dogs. She lends her skills to a variety of tasks, from creating posters to assisting with social media. A qualified canine massage therapist, Lesley combines her expertise with her love for dogs to make a difference.
