We are looking for volunteers who are experienced with dogs and have lots of energy to give to our hard working shelter! You MUST have experience of handling dogs, or at least be very confident around dogs, some of which are large breeds.
Preference is given to people with experience in shelters, kennels, and vet clinics, as some of the dogs will bark at new people due to their previous experiences prior to being rescued. We do not have aggressive dogs on site and you will initially be supervised. You must be able to listen and follow our advice / experience around dogs. If this is you, would you like to come and volunteer at our unique, free running dog shelter? Maybe spend some time out on the streets catching street dogs, and rescuing dogs and puppies in need?
Bulgaria can be very hot (up to 40c) in summer and very cold (down to -25) in winter so please be prepared for this. Our dogs need caring for all year round regardless of the weather.
All we ask is that you are positive, hard working, happy to help with cleaning tasks, and have a passion for dogs and training them so they can go on to loving homes. We also welcome volunteers who have skills such as building and carpentry to help with ongoing building projects and maintenance. Please be aware that working days are 9am to 5pm, six days a week. You will also be expected to foster a dog in your room; this may be a nervous dog who hasn't been house trained. You will be expected to train and help this dog go on to have a forever home.
In the shelter we have horses, pigs, chickens, and cats. They are also rescues and love human interaction. In return for your help, we can offer you free accommodation on site and a basic food cupboard. We are vegetarian and do not provide meat for volunteers.
Below you will find a typical daily and weekly routine. We do request a minimum of two weeks; this is so you get the best out of the experience, and also for us to invest our time in you. We would prefer volunteers who can give us three to four weeks.
Once you have submitted your application, we will be in contact for a video call and interview. Please be sure to include details of your experience with handling dogs.
